Back over the summer, I was meeting with my friend/client, Ken Stone and I remember he sat me down and told me I needed to meet this woman by the name of Hilde Oleson. Hilde is 93 and lives by herself in Provincetown. She originally came to Provincetown to die after her husband passed away. According to her, she just wanted to die while listening to the ocean. When that didn’t happen, Hilde decided to start writing poetry. Hilde and I have since sat down for multiple recording sessions where she reads her poems into my voiceover microphone. “Why,” was one of the first ones we recorded and I knew I could do something special with it. So one night I started playing with footage that we had shot for a totally different project and accidentally figured out that the footage also paired well with this piece. I had the entire project done in a matter of 2-3 hours.
